The introduction to the entire museum itinerary through literary sources on history and topography

Sala 1

The place

The first room introduces visitors to the entire museum itinerary. It offers various literary sources on the history and topography of ancient Akrágas, together with a historical summary from the founding of the colony by the Greeks to the Norman conquest of the city by Ruggero d'Altavilla in 1086. The literary sources are accompanied by iconographic ones, with reproductions of ancient prints of the territory taken from the work “Le antichità siciliane spiegate” (1751-52) by Giuseppe Maria Pancrazi, a Theatine priest who began research into the topography and history of the ancient city, to whom this first room is dedicated.
