Room 4

Templar gutters and drip mouldings

Sala 4

The place

The room contains several examples of gutters with lion-headed drip mouldings from various temples, not always identified with certainty.  This is the careful solution used by the Greeks to elevate a functional technical element to a decorative element, which in archaic times was resolved with clay tube drip mouldings, and over time became monumentalized in stone cornices with lion-headed drip mouldings, which were certainly attributed apotropaic value.
